Your Kids ARE Listening

Sometimes in the throws of parenting and craziness of life I wonder if my kids are going to turn out OK. I wonder if they are getting any of the lessons I’m trying to teach them and if ANYTHING I’m saying is sinking in. Have you ever wondered this too? If you are a parent I’m sure you’ve had your doubts.

This past week something amazing happened. My daughter brought home a writing assignment that was from her heart. It amazed me and I’m sharing it with you now. Reading her writing gave me a pause. Maybe my kids are getting what I’m teaching. Maybe some of my teaching in sinking in! If you are having one of those weeks where you think your kids aren’t listening- think again. Look for signs. Your influence on their life is imprinted in their hearts and it will come out for the world to see.

Title: Jesus
Author: Alyssa Cameron, Age 11

Some kids are happy for what they have. Some kids have everything in this world, but still want more. Christmas is not about the gifts or presents. It’s about Jesus coming to our Earth. Christmas is not about outdoing your neighbor on the holiday lights, or trying to sing like a beautiful bird in spring for your Christmas pageant.

Jesus is the sun, moon and the stars. He saved us, and loves us for who we are. We don’t give him enough credit for what he did. He died on the cross for us. You may think, “Ha, it’s a piece of cake! You wouldn’t even feel it!” But the rusty, cold, hard metal nail driven into poor Jesus’ hands tells another story.

God is glorious, good and great! He can save our very own souls with a snap of his finger. All we have to do is say, “I believe!” So, my ultimate gift for Christmas this year is for all of my friends and family to know Jesus Christ. He is my Savior, and I hope he is yours too!

P.S. You look a lot like your mom, very beautiful. We were neighbors and friends with your Grpa and Grma Merillat and knew you mom and aunt and uncle when they were kids.

    Alyssa,
Thank you for being the light of Christ at your school and with your friends. You have a wonderful heart for the Lord and an exceptional voice. I pray you continue to use it with tenderness and grace as you stand in the gap for your friends. You truly are a good and faithful servant…

    Thanks for sharing Stephanie!
